I was born and raised in San Francisco, California.
When I started attending San José State University, it was the first time I had ever moved outside of the city. San Jose is a large and exciting place that has much to do and see. I met people from all over California during my first year in college.
My friends would always tell me, “You are so lucky to live in San Francisco!” I never understood what really made San Francisco so great. To me, it was just like any other city.
One day, my friends decided to go visit San Francisco and wanted me to be their tour guide. In the past, my family would take my relatives, who were visiting from out of the country, around the city. I quickly agreed and we were well on our way back to my hometown. We hit many of the popular tourist locations including Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown. The sun was starting to set. In the end, we reached our final destination, Twin Peaks. Here, I was able to show my friends the entire view of the San Francisco city lights. As all my friends were taking photos in awe of the beauty, I too was feeling a form of appreciation.
I had never thought about seeing this city through the eyes of a visitor. Now I see it.
This is my city. My hometown. San Francisco.
It was beautiful.
