“She feels deceitful and blindsided…”

by Alivia Martinez

She feels deceitful and blindsided as she stares at her boyfriend’s phone and sees not only the dating app he has been using but also the dozens of women he has been messaging. Her body fills with rage as her boyfriend sleeps next to her, and he is oblivious as to what is going to happen next. She collects her evidence of screenshots, and as she is processing what is going on, she is not surprised by his behavior. It is almost fitting for his ego and over-confident personality. Finally, her anger can no longer contain itself, and she awakens her boyfriend of four years by yelling at him. Immediately, once he realizes what is going on, he denies everything and calls her profane names. Once he sees all the screenshots, he doesn’t admit to the cheating but tells her she’s ruined everything for herself. Confused, she asks him what he means and is left speechless for a moment as he throws an engagement ring at her, saying he was going to propose to her during this week-long vacation in the tropical paradise where they have been for the past five days. Reality sets in as she registers this big bombshell he has dropped on her, but still, her morals keep her on track to continue to leave this relationship where clearly she was not being valued, and take the flight back home that will just be another long journey to healing.
